Emodin (from Rheum emodi, a Himalayan rhubarb) is a purgative resin, 6-methyl-1,3,8-trihydroxyanthraquinone, from rhubarb and the buckthorn.[1] The term may also refer to any one of a series of principles isomeric with the emodin of rhubarb. As trometamol: Instil 1-2 drops of a 0.5% solution into the appropriate eye(s) every 6-8 hr starting 24 hr before surgery and continue for 3-4 wk after surgery.
Emodol is a NSAID, derivative of pyrrolizine-carboxylic acid.
This medication has a marked analgesic effect, also has anti-inflammatory and mild antipyretic action.
The mechanism of action is associated with inhibition of COX activity - the main enzyme metabolism of arachidonic acid, a precursor of prostaglandins, which play a major role in the pathogenesis of inflammation, pain and fever.
Emodol, an antiinflammatory agent with analgesic and antipyretic properties, is used to treat osteoarthritis and control acute pain.
It is a peripherally acting analgesic.
The biological activity of Emodol tromethamine is associated with the S-form. Emodol works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Emodol tromethamine possesses no sedative or anxiolytic properties.
